...Update from Aarhus...June 29 CHINA AND N-KOREAHi..
I just had to publish this statement made by a Chinese businessman to an American China expert in explaining China's position regarding N-Korea:
"One senior Chinese businessperson explained the PRC's [China's] dilemma to me in March 2003 as follows: "We can either send food to North Korea or they will send refugees to us - either way, we feed them. It is more convenient to feed them in North Korea than in China." (Lampton 2003).
I find this to be an incredibly realistic description eventhough it is of course somewhat simplified. And this still applies today.
best,
Helga
P.s we have been offered an apartment in Copenhagen and we have accepted it. Now we are only waiting for the lease to come through :) We are so glad to have a roof over our heads :)
June 26 SHE IS STILL ALIVE..Hi!
I am here and still in one piece.
I have not written for the better part of June since I have been busy doing the follwing:
- studying
- studying
- studying
- taking a short trip to Copenhagen for studying and meeting Harpa, Laura and Thea :)
- having a cold and fewer
- entertaining my father when he came to visit for 3 days :)
- studying
- studying
- having occasional dinnerparties at Árúns and Pallis :) We love to barbeque.
My thesis is slowly crawling together. My scary date is 1st of July so I am trying my best to finish as much as possible before that time. Still I dont have to hand the thesis in until on the 30th of August - so I still have 2 months of stress and studying left. But I figure I only have about 1 month and maybe 1 week to write the damn thing, the rest of the time is scheduled for modifications and correcting my english.
Well the wether today is just lovely so I am calling it early and heading downtown (for the first time this month!!) to do some shopping and relaxing.
hugs,
Helga
June 05 SUN SUN AND SUNBURNHi everyone...
The last week in May and the first in June have been really good.
Þormóður visiting
Egils friend Þormodur came to visit us for a week in the end of May. The boys were quite dilligent in playing computer games and chilling. But last weekend the sun really showed its face and we decided to go to the beach for a swimm and barbeque. Palli and Árun and little Thea came with us (or we with them..) to enjoy the beautiful weather.
Some of us forgot to put on enough sunlotion and got some really really bad burns on their back and chest. It was not Árún and Thea. And not me - but I got badly burned on the feet below my ankles and on one ear (funny how the sun works sometimes).
Deers and carrots
After spending some time in the Dyrehaven we drove to Marselisstand. Egill dug some trenches (dam) as usual and even managed to change the course of a riverbedwith a little help from his friends.
All in all this was a great weekend and I just hope the weather in Denmark will be as good or even better ;) hugs,
May 19 STILL HERE..Hi..I am still alive and kicking!
Just a short update this time.
- Egill is in New York with his school and sent me a sms today saying that he was talking a stroll in Central Park. Loads of envy from my side of the world.
- Me and Egill are expecting company next week. Egils friend, Þórmóður, will be visiting for a week, spending some quality time here in Aarhus.
- I have been busy being invited over for dinner at various friends places ever since Egill left. They obviously have a good insight into my cooking skills - probably fear that I will starve to death..hehe.
- Just met with my supervisor again today and everything is on the right track. Yibbi.
- I am going to Copenhagen on the 7th of june to meet Harpa and Laura :) Harpa has invited me to stay with her while I am there and we will probably relish in conversations about how great our time in Beijing was (nostalgic). Laura is traveling from Beijing and stopping shortly in Copenhagen and we will definitely get some chinese beers going on while she is here. I am really looking forward to this :)
Well off to bed...
May 09 THESIS GOING ON..Yessum.....
I just met with my supervisor regarding the status of my thesis on Thursday last. I handed over about 30 pages or 10.000 words (out of 90 pages or 36.000 words) for him to read through and comment on.
I had changed a lot of the structure since our last meeting where he felt that the theory was not stable enough and had to be revised. Therefore I have been battling with teory the most of April. So I did not really know what to expect.
After the meeting I did not really believe my own ears. He had no comments for revisement regarding my theory and the text I had written - he liked it. So much so that I really dont have to change much which is quite unusual! So now I have about 30 pages ready to use! Incredible!! I am overjoyed and unexpectedly relieved!
After the meeting with my supervisor I met with Rasmus, Sandra and Marja-Lisa to celebrate (had one beer) and watch the danish tradition of putting drunken students in leaking boats and competing who gets over to the other shore first - if they dont miss..
Now I can start worrying about other parts of the thesis ;) Introduction and theory done! Unbelievable!
..fjuff...!
p.s have put new pictures in my photo a day project on www.flickr.com/photos/helgabjo
